The prairie is a feeling rather than a place…
Prairie is an ever evolving visionary community focused on the arts in all forms, a constellation of makers near and far. From the mind of multi-disciplinary artist, Jillian Solotes, Prairie studio has emerged as a holding space for artists who seek and share a sense of belonging to the infinite nature of discovery. Like the plains of the western United States, Prairie evokes a feeling of new, uncharted territory upon which contemporary pioneers are exploring personal desires and ideas through their craft. In this community of feeling, artists are building a sense of home on intangible ground, evoking a neighborly kindness with others who also take refuge in the comfort of placelessness.
PRAIRIE VALUES
Home: a curated visual garden, a place to share ideas, process and motivation
Community: a collection of fine artists, sound artists, filmmakers, and designers.
Curiosity: an exploration of the vast intersection of mediums, the common ground, and expansion of their perceived boundaries.
Connection: we support the work of emerging and established international multidisciplinary creatives.
Vision: expansion through collaboration, across disciplines and continents. Listening to other cultures, backgrounds, roots as a means to grow and widen our own practices.
Foundations and actions
Our interest lies in bringing creatives together to build a web of relationships to facilitate harmony, peace, balance in our own lives, work and surrounding.
Our focus is on the process of creation and cultivation of emergent ideas. What happens in the in between, in the moment of movement. We are interested in studio practices, methods, and research involved in each individual's practice.
We believe in deep feeling and deep listening, honing in on the poetics of life to develop sensibility and understanding. With this intention, we develop a deeper connection to ourselves, methods, to one another and nature itself.
We live by the recognition of universal movement - a series of sounds or paint strokes - the ability to translate our ideas and initiate change in our inner and outer world without the use of language.
Our motivation is to continuously share and embody that nature and art are one. Through devotion and practice we are able to create pathways to establish healing and freedom.
The name Prairie comes from Solotes’ middle name, Leigh, meaning prairie, meadow, or grassland.
