Berta-Blanca T. Ivanow
Berta Blanca T. Ivanow (b.1992 Barcelona) a sculptress, cinematographer and performer channels her passion for expression into bold, embryonic structures crafted mainly from stoneware clay, but also uses paper, metal, soap. Mentored at Central Saint Martins in London and The Art Students League in New York, her work emphasises the corporeal into sculpture. Executed in Ivanow’s studio nestled in the Catalonia countryside, her sculptural works not only showcases her deep connection to nature through the use of organic materials but also underscores her reverence for them. Implicit in her work is the acknowledgment that all human-made creations eventually decompose, returning to and reintegrating with the environment. In her practice, elements of earth, fire, water, air and aether coexist without a discernible hierarchy, creating a harmonious juxtaposition. The sculptures connect with primitive memories of a previous touch.” When transforming their shape in the present, I alter the sculpture’s history. Perhaps there is no such thing as time. Creation must be a shared dance, where no main characters exist.”
Berta Blanca’s art has gained recognition, receiving grants and awards from Mies Van Der Rohe Foundation, COAC, Fundació Güell, Ajuntament de Barcelona. Her work has been featured in magazines and platforms such us La Reveue de la céramique et du verre, The New York Times, The Plant, Architectural Digest, Émergent Magazine, Whitewall, IDEAT, Milk Magazine, and many more.
