A Kind of Meditation
Prairie: What are you working on right now?
Franca Studio: I keep re-affirming in a more and more meaningful way that my work is my craft, my purpose. Each piece is not always my greatest creative expression, but the details and making of each piece are a kind of meditation.
The pendulum always swings in my mind and work. Having just made very simple pieces, I am yearning to make something I haven’t before, a gown or evening dress, perhaps a ballet costume.
Is solitude important for your work?
Franca Studio: Solitude is important mostly because much of the work requires my full attention and focus. That being said, I don’t require days of solitude unless I’m brainstorming a big concept, really only hours. This time made me realize how social I am and how much I depend on seeing people in my day. I always take a coffee break in the middle of the day to be around people and absorb some energy outside of my world. Even now I get a coffee to go when I can.
I’d say, it’s been good for me to not have easy access to distractions and shift my inner dialog, but for the most part I benefit and enjoy the company of other people, both dear friends and strangers.
