In May 2026, Prairie welcomed garden designer Pierre Fresse from Nancy, France, to make a naturalistic garden. For Pierre, garden design is an act of listening. He seeks to understand the genius loci, or the spirit and particular character of a place, and to work in response to what is already there. He studies details, materials and textures and nourishes this sensibility in a variety of landscape, design and related fields. It is important to him to feel, read and understand all the essence of a place or a landscape, as well as the dynamics at work in its evolution.

Pierre Fresse is a landscape architect and garden designer based in Nancy, France. He graduated from HEPIA in Geneva, Switzerland, and holds the French government regulated title of Paysagiste-concepteur.

Over the years, Pierre has worked as a landscape architect in both public and private practice, with architecture and landscape agencies in Switzerland and working independently in France. His experience spans projects of many scales, from territorial studies and urban forest master plans to parks, gardens, and intimate landscapes.

Today, Pierre is focusing his practice on garden design and planting, allowing more time for his photography practice. His current projects range from private gardens to larger landscape commissions. Pierre is particularly interested in plant communities and naturalistic gardening, with a strong affinity for the British naturalistic tradition and the work of designers and gardeners such as Dunnett, Pearson, and Price.
