Giorgio Petracci

“My studio practice and research revolves around time. This process encompasses observations of certain realities, both past and future. Colors become filters, and shapes are like soft shadows intended to free our fixed gaze. The present is a passing phase where we might perceive the signals and flow of nature. My preferred material is wood panel, as it is a living and constantly evolving. Color absorbs into the wood and changes continuously in a symbiosis with the surface where it is applied. Layered acrylic paint and gesso (plaster) allows me to work over time. This process was informed by a period where I worked in the archeological offices of Bologna, Italy, where I was able to experience and touch the beauty of historic Etruscan works. I believe in a constant link with the past and the present where my work is like mini-screen of our civilization.” — Giorgio Petracci (b. 1974)
